Some thoughts on “that girl”….
The biggest misconception about the trend so far is that being that girl is all about the aesthetic aspect! The external stuff and how the world perceives you.
This is so far from the truth…
Being that girl is INTERNAL! And it begins with the mind, the soul, and the attitude! Yes, drinking match lattes, making picture-worthy breakfast, and having the perfect indoor décor can make you feel good and add the extra “that girl” appeal. But it will be meaningless if your internal world does not match the external.
That girl is a state of mind! And it starts within….3
How to be that girl in 2023?
1. Develop a strong morning routine!
A strong morning routine is always a good place to start because it will get you into the right mindset. How you start your day can impact the rest of the day, so starting off on the right foot is key.
So what does a “that girl” morning routine consist of?
The key is to take care of the mind and you will have your own ways of doing that. You want to get yourself as energised as possible, tap into the happy hormones and get excited about the day.
The way to achieve it will differ from person to person but some small rituals or habits can massively help.
They could be as simple as:
- Having a coffee in bed
- Drinking a glass of water
- Making the bed
- Putting on your favorite music or uplifting podcast while you get ready
- Using your favorite beauty products
Or more involved such as:
- Yoga
- Morning workout
- Listing three things you are grateful for
- Making a plan for the day
- Journaling all your thoughts and feelings
- Making a super dreamy, fuelling breakfast
Whatever you choose to do, make it an activity that will fill you with lots of positive energy. Get rid of any stress/anxiety/tension within you, and get your MOJO on for the day ahead!
This way you can show up as your best self!
2. Practice all those healthy habits.
Staying healthy and filling your day with healthy habits seems to be a defining feature of “that girl”.
We see it all across Instagram and TikTok.
Getting rid of any negative and unhealthy habits you might have picked up and stepping up your healthy habits game will get you one more step towards being that girl.
Firstly, because taking care of yourself will help you look your best.
Secondly, taking care of yourself inside out will help you FEEL your best.
There is no better combo!
So, grab that dusty gym set and start moving your body.
Fill your plate with lots of nutritious goodness.
And hydrate hydrate hydrate

3. Achieve that girl aesthetic.
Although, we care less about appearance and more about internal attitude when it comes to being that girl – getting that girl aesthetic is sort of part of the fun.
So, what does that girl aesthetic entail?
- SKINCARE: Well now is the time to step up that skincare routine. Invest in some new beauty products that you can introduce into your morning and night-time skin rituals.
- FASHION: There is never a bad time to update your wardrobe because a little bit of a refresh can do wonders for giving you a confidence boost. Which is very much within that girl theme. So, allow yourself to splurge a little on a few new pieces of workwear, everyday wear, or even loungewear.
- HOME DÉCOR: It is no secret that the environment around you can have an impact on your internal and mental space. That girl is very much aware of this which is why she makes that little bit of extra effort in creating a warm, tidy, organized, aesthetically pleasing, and cosy home environment. Organizing your home does not have to be expensive or time-consuming, but a few simple hacks can help a great deal. 4. Work on that confidence.
That girl always seems to have a certain aura about her. And it usually stems from quiet inner confidence.
She understands her place in the world and the uniqueness that she brings with her. There is value in how she shows up in the world. That girl does not rely on other people to define that value for her, it is all coming from within.
This state of mind is the pinnacle of being that girl. Because that kind of confidence will help you feel at peace with yourself.
Tap into yourself and get completely honest with yourself – if you find that your confidence might be lacking, try a bit of inner work. Find out what it is that is holding you back. What situation/person/event shaped the self-esteem you currently have. Spend a bit of time working through it. You can read my blog post
I always recommend surrounding yourself with positive and confident souls because that kind of energy is contagious and will rub off on you. Follow motivating and personal growth accounts on social media.
Go through that personal growth so you can step into your confident self.

5. Find purpose and passion in your life.
One key thing that allows that girl to show up with high and positive energy in the world and a sense of peace is her well-defined purpose in life.
She is crystal clear on her goals and is taking steps forward towards them every single day!
Having a strong purpose will help you feel so grounded and will give you an extra dose of confidence. There is nothing more fulfilling than knowing where you are heading. It is such a privilege to be able to pursue your passions.
If this is still something that you have not yet defined for yourself – now is the time.
One tip you might find helpful is to create vision boards. I love doing that using Canva Pro! You can of course use the free version of Canva but I am in love with the added features and possibilities of Canva Pro.
Try dividing your life by the different areas, whether relationships, family, friends, work, business, home…Create a page for each which a title and then get creative in finding images and photos that represent everything you want in that area of your life.
Not only will it help you define your true purpose, goals, and passions, but it will also be a great thing to look over to keep your motivation high!
6. Be a productive Boss Babe.
Productivity sometimes sounds scary, especially with the super obsession with the hustle culture that currently exists.
But it does not have to be so…
To anyone aspiring to become that girl productivity simply means being mindful of how you spend your time.
It is all about prioritizing the many facets of your life in a way that aligns with YOU, who you are, who you want to be, your goals, your aspirations, and your purpose.
Yes, at times life will require you to dig deep to find the motivation to do the task you dread, but in many cases, if your internal and external worlds align productivity will become a convenient by-product. When you do something that you love or that is important to you – productivity will come easily.
And don’t forget that RESTING is productive too!!!
So make sure you squeeze in a whole chunk of rest time : )
7. Planning. Planners. Diaries. Organizers.
Is anyone else obsessed with planning…like literally planning everything?
If you are then good for you because planning and organizing so very much screams – that girl vibes.
Having some concrete action points and goals set, whether for the day, the week or the year can bring so much peace and mental space into your life. It can keep you accountable, and help you move toward your goals.
It’s also very good for the mind. It has been observed that writing down your to-do list for the following day the night before can alleviate feelings of stress and anxiety. How often have you found yourself, lying in bed at night unable to fall asleep because you are crippled with thoughts about what you need to do the next day? Well, when it is out on paper, it’s out of mind.
And let’s face it seeing yourself tick off the tasks at the end of the day really makes you feel like you have your sh** together.
8. Cultivate Positive Mindset.
That girl tries to stay a glass-half-full kind of gal.
Life can throw you some serious curveballs once in a while. Every time it does it always seems like the worst possible time.
You cannot always control the external factors that affect your life, but you do have some leeway when it comes to how you decide to respond.
Cultivating that positive mindset is a mindset. It does not just happen, and it is not something you either have or don’t
Yes, your genetics and your environment do play a role, but at the end of the day – staying positive is a CHOICE!
Finding those glimmers of light during difficult times is ON YOU!
It does not mean, you cannot allow yourself to cry it out, fall apart, and break down every so often. This is healthy and part of the process.
But just don’t allow yourself to remain in that state for too long. Make an effort to find that remaining strength to pull yourself back up and find your happiness again.
9. Surround yourself with fulfilling relationships.
I always say – people in your life and the relationships you have should not be the reason why you do what you do in life. They should not be the reason behind your drive and ambition and goals. Those things should come from you and you only.
On the other hand, the WRONG PEOPLE and the WRONG RELATIONSHIPS in your life can hold you back.
Having the right bunch of people by your side can elevate your happiness. When you spend time with people who make you feel understood and accepted and loved you will certainly show up differently in the world.
Everyone has at some point experienced a toxic person or relationship. It might have been subtle or grandiose, but everyone knows that feeling of leaving an interaction and feeling drained, anxious, lacking confidence, or low in mood. That is your RED FLAG! That is your cue that this is not your tribe.
Invest time in finding those people who leave you feeling positive after you spend time with them – these are the ones who will bring out that girl in you.
10. Embrace Happiness.
Make happiness a LIFESTYLE choice!
Find the little things in life that bring you joy and embrace them and make them part of your day.
Doing more of the things that make you feel good will pump you full of happy hormones.
You will find how much more positive you show up in the world and the world will reflect that back to you.
That kind of positivity and happiness is addictive.
Embrace that happiness.
Avoid these ‘that girl’ pitfalls.
I really hate the idea of finishing a post on a negative but despite the title, I promise you this is not as negative or horrible as it sounds. It is just a few things to be mindful of.
As usual social media can be an amazing source of inspiration and motivation. But it is worth always staying mindful of some of the negative effects – especially when it comes to trends.
Although being that girl has a lot of appeal, misunderstanding the trend and getting too wrapped up in the glimpses of others’ highlight reels on social media can have the opposite effect on us.
It can make us spiral into a comparison game, depleting our confidence.
So, I wanted to mention a few things to avoid and be mindful of when you hop on that girl movement!
Avoid ‘that girl’ pitfalls
- The picture-perfect aesthetic – not everything has to be picture-perfect, it’s more about mindset
- Don’t feel you have to limit your food – don’t forget that it is much more about the quality of food rather than quantity. Never deprive yourself of anything.
- Body image insecurities – there is no body shape or size requirement when it comes to being that girl – it is an all-inclusive tribe, and everyone is welcome!
- You don’t have to be positive every day – you will have bad days. You are a human after all. Allow yourself those days and do not feel like you are not living up to that girl’s standard if you have a bad day. The best of the best has them too.
- One size does not fit all – you do not have to blindly follow others’ ideas of what being that girl entails. Remember it is an inner attitude so find the fit that is right for you and do the things that work for you.
- Stop comparing yourself – there is no one like you in the world and that is your superpower.
- Don’t compromise sleep – too often you see that girl trending videos showing girls waking up at 4 am or 5 am just to squeeze in a workout or a journaling session. Compromising sleep just to fit into that girl’s aesthetic defies the purpose. I say getting a good night’s sleep so you can have the right energy, avoid feeling groggy and avoid feeling irritable due to lack of sleep is absolutely the kind of that girl vibes we are going for here!
ON A FINAL NOTE.
