How to get exactly what you want in life?…
Scale your 5 Pillars of Life
The first step to getting exactly what you want is to determine where you are right now…
This means getting real with yourself and doing a full-on LIFE AUDIT.
I recommend splitting your life into key areas and ranking each one on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 meaning poor performance in this area, and 10 meaning you are performing amazingly, and no improvement is needed.
The categories which are a good starting point are what I call the 5 Pillars of Life:
- health,
- wealth,
- goals,
- love,
- happiness.
Take an average of the 5 to give you an overall idea of where you are in life because for the ultimate happiness you want each one to be high as each one feeds into the other.
However, take a look at each separate area too, and prioritize the lowest scoring areas first, as these are the ones ultimately impacting your life the most.
As a scoring guide:
1 – terrible
2 – poor
3 – unhappy
4 – so so
5 – okay
6 – content
7 – good
8 –great
9 – amazing
10 – perfect
Ask yourself these questions…
You might surprise yourself with just how helpful asking yourself the following 4 questions can be, here they are:
- What do you want?
- Why do you want that?
- What is stopping you?
- What would it be like if you got it?
Did you have a bit of an aha moment just then?
Too often we get so consumed without everyday life, we get so used to things being the way they are, that we do not stop to even consider whether we are truly happy. Whether we are where we truly want to be in life. Or whether there is room for improvement in our lives.
We simply hop on the hamster wheel and repeat.
Taking a moment to ask yourself these questions helps to make that shift in your mind. It lets you for a moment hop off that hamster wheel, taking you away from the routine and helping you decide whether your life aligns with your truest desires.
If after answering these there is a great deal of mismatch you know it is time to make some changes…and this is a fundamental reality check which will help you make the necessary shifts in your life.
Determine what kind of lifestyle you want.
Lifestyle is all about getting laser-focused on what you NEED to feel satisfied and fulfilled.
Defining your lifestyle is helpful because it allows you to decide what you do in terms of work, free time, and hobbies, how you define health and how healthy you want to be. In addition, it helps you define what you need in order to have inner peace and calm, and what relationships you should seek which will bring you joy.
Lifestyle affects your life and your ultimate happiness. So knowing what you want will help you align your daily choices and decisions to match the lifestyle you have imagined for yourself.
To help you decide the following:
- How much free time do you want?
- What do you want to spend money on?
- Who do you want to spend time with?
- What do you want to do for fun?
- What makes you unhappy?
- What brings you stress?
- How do you relax?
- What are your core emotional needs?
- What makes you want to get out of bed in the morning?

Set fulfilling goals.
Here is some food for thought:
“You can reach a goal and still feel unfulfilled”
It seems in today’s day and age everyone is romanticizing goal setting. Yes, setting goals and more importantly reaching them can be amazing and take you closer to a life you want, but only if you set the right goals.
The goal itself, the journey you will take to get there, and the results that reaching the goal will bring, have to match your core values. All of this has to be in alignment with you.
There would be nothing more disappointing than reaching the summit of a goal and not feeling happy and satisfied.
So, before you set out on the journey to reach your goal, make sure it is a fulfilling one. That’s the only way goals will get you closer to the life you want.
Prime your mind for it.
Before you bring in everything you dream of into your physical world, you have to have the right mindset to receive it.
Everything starts with the mind.
There is a bit of a vicious cycle when it comes to thoughts and behaviors. And it’s a bit of a chicken and egg situation.
Your thoughts will shape your behavior and concurrently your behavior will shape your mind. You might be the most gifted tennis player, but if you believe you are the worst your mind will lead you into behavioral traps that sabotage your performance.
So, if there is something you want in your life believe that you can. Become and start acting like the type of person that already has the things you want. What would be their habits? Create your ideal reality in your mind and subconsciously you will start attracting these things into your physical world.
Find your pinpoints.
Wait did she say “pinpoints”?
She did!
By pinpoints, I mean getting so very specific about exactly what you want. Why does that work? Well, the answer is two-fold.
One: you are essentially breaking your big dreams into smaller goals that you can tackle one by one, without feeling overwhelmed by the big, gigantic task in front of you. Overwhelm, is what leads to procrastination and eventually to you giving up
Two: it builds extra excitement in you because you are beginning to build a whole life reality around your dreams. It’s not just a faraway idea, you begin to feel like having it in your life.
Think about what you don’t want.
To get exactly what you want in life you gotta know what it is that you want. That’s for sure. But what if you simply cannot determine what it is that you want?
Well, maybe the best step forward to getting what you want is determining what you don’t want.
In fact, determining what you don’t want is just as important and can give you all the necessary perspectives on what you truly desire.
You could have everything you want in life but if your life is counterbalanced with lots of things or people or whatever else that makes you miserable, you will never enjoy the
Spend time with people who inspire you.
Spend time with people who are already living the dream that you want and choose collaboration over competition.
If you can put aside your ego and use these people as a source of inspiration for what is possible, rather than a source of envy over what you don’t yet have, you will be driven towards your goal.
There is nothing different between you and them. They are only on chapter 30, while you are starting your journey on chapter one. But they are the proof that it is possible and if you stay consistent throughout the rest of the chapter, you will reach the end too.
Take action…one step at a time
You gotta take the necessary steps to make it happen.
Getting clear on what you want in life is the essential ingredient, often overlooked, when going after your dreams.
But of course, daydreaming about having the life you dream of is not enough. You gotta take the necessary steps to make it happen.
Hopefully, the laser focus will make that process easier for you because it will help you:
- Identify small goals that you can take.
- Help you prioritize what you can and cannot do right now
- Help you set realistic future goals
- Allow you to set a realistic timescale
- Help you avoid procrastination
- Help you avoid stress and overwhelm
- Make the journey more enjoyable
- Create a mindset of abundance rather than scarcity
