Staying persistent while working towards your goals is the key to seeing them through. This is why persistence pays off – because success is not possible without it!
Humans have this inherent quality of giving up as soon as a sign of an obstacle or difficulty arises. This is also the reason why only a few experience true success and can say that they have achieved most of the large goals they strive towards.
Staying persistent with little guarantee that it will pay off is mentally challenging for sure. But the idea of knowing that you were so close to getting everything you’ve wanted…if you just were a little more patient…a little more persistent…that’s not something you ever want to look back on and wonder or regret.
It is difficult to push past those doubts and fears when you are in the thick of it which is why I wanted to compile this post for you looking at all the reasons why persistence pays off and why you should 100% keep pushing through.
Hopefully, this will give you the necessary motivation and encouragement to keep going.

What does it mean to be persistent?
If you have persistence, you continue to do something even though it is difficult or other people are against it. Persistence is the quality of continuing steadily despite problems or difficulties. Having persistence means understanding that the longer you stay committed to a task or goal, the more likely something good will happen for you.
Top reasons why persistence pays off.
1. Practice makes you better.
One of the ways in which persistence guarantees success is that repeatedly doing the same thing or task will help you master it. With time you will get increasingly better and as you get better you will start seeing improvements in your results.
There is nothing that you can’t master with continuous practice. Every mistake you make along the way allows you to error correct next time.
2. Most people attribute success to persistence.
The stats are in favor of persistence!
When you speak to or listen to anyone who has amounted to any great success there is an undeniable recurring theme to their success – Persistence.
It is very easy to look at the success of someone and think they must possess a quality or some magical ingredient that has allowed them to get to where they are. Better yet it must just have been luck.
The problem with this thinking is that it closes doors to your success. You’ll give up before you’ve even begun. Because what you see in people’s success stories is usually only the tip of the iceberg. No one talks about business owners at the time when they are still working from their parent’s house or when they fail repeatedly in the beginning.
No. They stuck through it, overcame the challenges, shifted, learned, and put all their wisdom and experience into good use.
They persisted.
3. What comes easily usually is not worth it.
This may be another one of those cliché phrases but there is certainly truth in it.
The more worthwhile something is, and that goes for anything in life, the greater the effort needed to attain it and the longer the journey to get it.
Because of this, the truly worthy things in life are only in the hands of a few.
If what you are striving towards is worthy of the time and effort, then you should put in the work persistently. Reaching the goal will be one of the most satisfying feelings and you will never look back with regret.
The things that come easily are rarely worth it and the success associated with those types is not long-lasting or satisfying.
4. It is a necessary ingredient for achieving a goal.
The magic ingredient in reaching any one goal – is persistence. Of course, you need much more than simply persistence. Firstly, you want to make sure you’re on the right track. Because staying persistent while heading in the direction will do the opposite of leading you to your goal.
However, once you have the right strategy in place, you are convinced of the direction then all that is left to do is just keep going.

5. Teaches you delayed gratification.
There is no such thing as an overnight success. If you need that extra convincing, I recommend you pick up Maria Hatzistefanis’s Book “How to be an overnight success” where she basically debunks the idea that overnight success is even possible.
Persistence teaches you the skill of delayed gratification. In other words, the ability to put aside short-term pleasures or instant rewards for longer-term gains and bigger rewards.
In today’s culture, this is something that is increasingly becoming difficult to master, mostly because of how easy it is to fall into the comparison trap. Other people’s lives and successes are continually posted in front of our eyes, and it is difficult to feel like you are not falling behind. When you feel like you are behind everyone else, that’s when you are most likely to give in to impulses.
Staying persistent when success seems far off teaches you delayed gratification. Delayed gratification will allow you to see much bigger rewards and results further down the line.
6. Makes you more appreciative.
This post is quickly becoming a collection of clichés, but I stand by them because they are clichés for a reason.
Here comes another one…
It is no secret that when you have to work harder for something or when something is difficult to attain when you do get it, you become more appreciative of it.
This is actually very important for your long-term success. Whatever the goals or dream is that you are currently working towards, you want to make sure that you not only get to it but you can stay there for the long haul.
When you have to hustle and grind to get there, believe me, you will never take it for granted. You will protect it with everything you’ve got because you will be that much more appreciative of it.
7. You will inspire others.
People always look up to those who did not give up at the first sign of difficulty or trouble. The people who push through the dark moments and obstacles are truly inspirational.
They create such awe because they are rare. Now imagine having the chance to be the inspiration behind someone else’s success. The ability to do that for someone else simply by persevering can add a great deal of meaning to everything you are doing.
8. It is an admirable quality to have.
Persistence is an admirable quality because it signals that someone is hard-working, not afraid to put in the effort, does not give in to impulses, and has the mental strength to keep moving forward. It signals a great deal of self-respect and self-worth.
Whether a friend, a mentor a partner, or any family member, these types of people are worth having in life.
It’s even more rewarding when that person is you!
9. It shows your goals are aligned with your deepest desires.
The ability to stay persistent also signals that you are on the right track in life and in your goals.
When you show the willingness to show up day in and day out to do the work required to achieve your dreams, it’s likely that it means a lot to you. Reaching the goals is something you truly desire and therefore, showing up will be far easier than if the goal did not align with what you truly envisage for yourself.
If you can stay persistent then you have passed the quality check of the goals, you have set.
10. Stops you from giving up too early.
Oh, it is just far too common to see people giving up at the time just before the big shift is to happen.
There is this critical point when working towards your goals, where the tasks seem too difficult, unattainable, and like too much effort. The results are not as quick as you had hoped so all that is left is to part ways with the goal and move on to something else.
This critical point is usually the time where you are becoming most impatient and burned out but it is also the time where a small push forward, just a few more steps would have led to the goals.
Having the ability to stay persistent will stop you from falling into this trap and save a great deal of regret later on.
Just when you feel like giving up for good, is exactly the moment that you should keep going – the magic is just around the corner.
11. Eventually, you will succeed.
Nothing is a guarantee in life. But there is no denying that staying persistent with your goals improves your chances of succeeding eventually.
In the humble beginning striving forwards when the progress is slow or even invisible, it is not easy to keep going. It is normal to be afraid of the fact that you are simply wasting your precious time.
You will have days when you feel empowered and believe that “one day you will make it”.
Only to be faced with the negative voice the next day, the voice that says, “you’re a dumb idiot forever thinking this could work”.
This process can be emotionally draining, especially when your desire to succeed is high.
But I guarantee that if you keep going, taking those steps in the forward direction it will pay off, one way or another.
If you are struggling because you are not seeing the big results just yet, I recommend that you document the small changes you are noticing. I like to call them micro steps.
It could be a new subscriber, someone linking your post, someone visiting your website, someone leaving a comment, or the £1 profit you have made. Even more importantly document the growth you have experienced since starting and all the small lessons you have learned.
This will allow you to see progress from a new perspective.
12. You’ll create the life you desire.
I wanted to leave you with this final point and in my opinion the most important one.
What persistence will give you is the chance at creating the LIFE OF YOUR DREAMS.
If you give up on your goals, then it is a guarantee that you will never have the life you truly desire. You could well be left with lots of regret down the line, and a feeling of unfulfillment.
I’m sure that’s not something you want for yourself, and I definitely don’t want that for you.
So the most important lesson in staying persistent is that it can lead you to the fulfilling, regret-free life of your dreams.
On a Final Note.
If you were a skeptic before reading this post, then I hope it has convinced you that persistence pays off.
Persistence will take you further toward your dream than anything else.
But to avoid the mental exhaustion of working towards something without seeing any results, you have to believe that there is an end. Because there is.
All it takes to get there is to just keep going, keep moving forward and never give up.
Persistence pays off – trust me.
